Mathematics & Music
Bach, counterpoint and structure.
A question at the piano
How can mathematical thinking illuminate the way musical ideas recur, transform and interact? Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in D minor, BWV 875, offers a starting point for Herong’s interest in structure and symmetry.
Performance & inquiry
Herong’s interests include counterpoint, patterns and Fourier analysis, alongside the changing musical languages of the twentieth century. These are areas of inquiry; a formal research paper is not yet presented in this archive.
